WATCH: Top 10 shock F1 pole-sitters
The fight for pole position normally boils down to the usual suspects in any given season, but just occasionally, one of the less fancied runners gets their timing just right, bolts on the right tyres and hooks up the perfect lap to stun the top dogs and take top spot on the grid.
The video above celebrates those drivers who upset the established order to catapult themselves to the front row. Look out for two great performances from Giancarlo Fisichella, while Rubens Barrichello dances in the rain at Magny Cours in 1999, Pastor Maldonado stuns in Spain and Andrea de Cesaris does the unthinkable in the United States in 1982.
