Arthur Leclerc was gunning for victory on a virtual version of the streets where he grew up on Sunday afternoon in the third round of the F2 Virtual Racing series.
The Monegasque driver was looking to build on his superb start to the series after he took an incredible perfect score in Round 1 with wins in the feature and sprint races as well as both pole positions and both fastest laps.
After races at the Bahrain International Circuit and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Sunday's event saw F2 and F3 drivers, as well as some guest stars, battle it out for victory on the Monaco Grand Prix track in the F2 cars on Codemasters’ F1 2019 game.
ART driver Marcus Armstrong made his F2 virtual racing debut, along with Dan Ticktum, racing for DAMS, Robert Shwartzman – racing alongside Leclerc for PREMA, and F3 drivers Enaam Ahmed (Carlin) and Théo Pourchaire, who partnered Armstrong for ART.
For the first time BWT HWA RACELAB ran two entries, though their second car – which was raced by F3 driver Enzo Fittipaldi – carried the number 22, after the Championship retired the number 19 in memory of Anthoine Hubert.
Former F1 driver Roberto Merhi also made his debut in the series for Campos Racing, while 2012 GP2 Champion and Sky Sports commentator Davide Valsecchi was back on the grid, racing for his old team DAMS.
