WATCH: Hamilton’s record-breaking pole lap at Spa for the Belgian Grand Prix
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton broke the track record not once but twice in qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix, eventually establishing a new record of 1m 41.252s with a breath-taking effort around the iconic 7.004km Spa-Francorchamps.
It was a lap that even Hamilton couldn’t help but describe as “incredible”, his Mercedes W11 looking fabulously hooked up through the sinuous middle sector of the circuit – and with the six-time champion dedicating the pole position to Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, who’d lost his battle with cancer the night before.
Tap the video above to ride onboard with Hamilton as he secures an emotional, record-extending sixth Spa pole position – the 93rd of his career.
