WATCH: Gasly's Alpine is flipped upside down in Miami Grand Prix following Lawson contact
Pierre Gasly's Miami Grand Prix came to an early end after he dramatically collided with Liam Lawson.
Pierre Gasly endured a dramatic incident in the early stages of the Miami Grand Prix as contact with Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson sent his Alpine into a mid-air flip before he crashed into the wall.
Heading into Turn 17, Gasly lined up a pass on Lawson down the outside, prompting the Kiwi to make a defensive move and suffer a lock-up. That left him clipping the left rear of the Alpine which sent Gasly into the air, where he completed a full flip and ended up hitting the barrier.
Fortunately the Frenchman was ok and he emerged from the car, which was left stranded at the hairpin, forcing a Safety Car period to neutralise the field. He wasn't the only one to retire from the race, as Lawson's Racing Bulls car also had too much damage to continue and was subsequently ruled out on Lap 6.
Gasly's crash happened shortly after Red Bull's Isack Hadjar also crashed out of the Grand Prix in Miami.
