WATCH: All the angles of Daniel Ricciardo's big FP2 crash at the Red Bull Ring
Daniel Ricciardo's second practice session ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix ended with a bang on Friday afternoon after he had a big shunt into the barriers at the Red Bull Ring.
Formula 1 is back at the circuit for the second of two back-to-back races in Austria this weekend, and Ricciardo came into the weekend hoping for a solid points finish after a mechanical problem put him out of last Sunday's Grand Prix, just 17 laps into the race.
But his preparations abruptly came to a halt in FP2 on Friday afternoon when his Renault R.S.20 speared off the track at Turn 9 early on in the session, before slamming into the barriers on the exit, in what looked like a heavy impact.
The Australian confirmed he was OK over the radio, before climbing out of the damaged car and limping away, while the session was red flagged as marshals cleared the Renault.
Ricciardo, who had finished the morning session ninth fastest, just under a second off Sergio Perez's session-topping time, was taken to the circuit medical centre as a precaution.
