As heavy rain fell at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Fernando Alonso proved the quickest driver in the wet, the Alpine racer topping the timesheets of the third practice session at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.
On the intermediate tyre, Alonso set a time of 1m 33.836s to lead the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly and the Aston Martin driven by Sebatian Vettel, in second and third, by 0.053s and 0.055s respectively. The other Alpine of Esteban Ocon finished in fourth, 0.167s off his team mate.
It was also a good session for McLaren, with Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris in fifth and sixth respectively, ahead of George Russell in seventh. The Red Bulls of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen finished in P8 and P9 with Carlos Sainz rounding out the top 10. Lewis Hamilton finished in 15th, while Charles Leclerc did not set a time in the session, the Monegasque set to start the Canadian Grand Prix from the back after a raft of power unit changes.
FP3: Alonso beats Gasly by 0.053s in wet final practice session in Montreal
