The last race weekend of the season was straightforward for some, and less serene for others. As such it was no surprise that come lights out, the competitive juices flowed and a fair few drivers got a little hot under the collar. Sebastian Vettel was left unhappy with his strategy in his final race, while Lewis Hamilton was worried about car damage after his elbows-out manoeuvre on the first lap with Carlos Sainz.
Sainz’s Ferrari team mate Charles Leclerc asked for radio silence to allow him to eke out a sufficient gap over Sergio Perez to claim P2 in both the race and the drivers’ standings – while there were a host of goodbyes post-race as drivers got set to move onto new pastures.
