Perez apologises to Racing Point for 'stupid mistake' at Hockenheim

Sergio Perez took responsibility for his “stupid mistake” after crashing out of the German Grand Prix. The Mexican driver qualified eighth after Racing Point brought upgrades to Hockenheim, but couldn’t capitalise in a chaotic race.
Perez has out-qualified Lance Stroll in every race this season, finishing ahead of his Canadian team mate seven times, yet Stroll managed to finish fourth having started 15th in Germany, whereas Perez's race lasted just two laps.
He put the onus on himself, not the weather nor the standing start.

“I think it was the right call [to have a standing start],” said Perez. “It’s good for the show and conditions were tricky out there but it’s how it should be.
“It was just a stupid mistake from my side, I went through [Turn 11] and picking up the power, there was some aquaplaning on the rear, I lost it and I spun. I couldn’t recover from it. A big shame.
“We lost a great opportunity to score good points for the team, so big apologies to everyone at the track and back in the factory because we’ve done an incredible step,” he said, referring to the significant upgrades Racing Point brought to Germany.
Though Perez failed to score, Stroll's haul was enough to move Racing Point to within eight points of sixth-place Renault in the constructors’ standings.
And there's more good news for the duo, with the Silverstone-based team set to bring another set of upgrades to the Hungaroring as they target one final push before the summer break.
