Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu have both received a five-place grid penalty for the 2022 United States Grand Prix after taking their fifth internal combustion engines of the season.
Perez, as well as team mate Max Verstappen, have also taken their seventh of eight allocated exhausts, while George Russell and Alex Albon have taken their fourth of four allocated gearboxes and related components.
Stepping in for Kevin Magnussen, Haas’s Antonio Giovinazzi crashed out early in FP1 and sat out the rest of the session with a damaged clutch – though it is not clear whether the team will fit a new gearbox to the car.
Starting from Sunday's US Grand Prix, the FIA will implement clarified rules on grid penalties, following confusion after nine drivers received penalties in Italy.
