The 2025 Formula 1 season continues to spring surprises – no McLarens on the front row in Montreal. Instead, Mercedes’s George Russell has his first pole of the year, with old rival Max Verstappen alongside him for Red Bull.
REPORT: Russell beats Verstappen and Piastri to pole in thrilling Qualifying for Canadian GP
The first papaya car is that of championship leader Oscar Piastri in P3, with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli next up. Two F1 greats form row three, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
Lando Norris starts P7 in the sister McLaren, while the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc is eighth. Completing the top 10 are the Williams of Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto, who out-qualified Alpine team mate Pierre Gasly.
A disappointed Yuki Tsunoda starts last in the second Red Bull car after a 10-place drop for passing under reds, while stablemate Isack Hadjar drops three places to P12 after impeding another car in his Racing Bulls.
Look out for returning local hero Lance Stroll – the Canadian starts a lowly P17 for Aston Martin, but team mate Alonso has shown the car could go well here.
And finally, two drivers will be starting from the pit lane after their respective teams chose to make car alterations after Qualifying - Alpine's Pierre Gasly, who had qualified 20th, and Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson, who was 18th.
