MUST-SEE: Perez to take gearbox penalty after hitting T22 wall in FP3
Sergio Perez is set to take a five-place grid penalty for Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix, after Racing Point were forced to change his car’s gearbox following his accident in final practice.
Perez swiped the wall hard at Turn 22 of the Marina Bay Circuit midway through FP3, heavily damaging his right-rear wheel and prompting red flags as marshals worked to clear the debris.
Despite his retirement from the session, the Mexican ended the hour 14th in the times, having taken 13th place in Friday’s second practice. However, any chance he may have had of a top-10 starting slot now look to have gone.
