MONDAY MORNING DEBRIEF: How Piastri’s ultimate gamble saw him take and keep the lead in Baku while under immense pressure


The crucial moment in Oscar Piastri’s sensational victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix came at the beginning of the 20th lap, shortly after both he and early race leader Charles Leclerc had made their new tyre pit stops.
In the first stint Leclerc had established a lead of almost six seconds and Piastri was under pressure of being undercut by Sergio Perez’s Red Bull.
