Fong to drive for Sauber in Abu Dhabi test
Chinese racer Adderly Fong will get his third taste of Formula One machinery next week after being called up to drive by Sauber in the season-ending Pirelli F1 tyre test in Abu Dhabi.
The 25-year-old is slated to test until he reaches 300 kilometres for the day - enough mileage to allow him to extend his Super Licence. Once that benchmark has been passed, Fong will hand over to Marcus Ericsson.
"I am very pleased and thankful to have another opportunity to drive for the Sauber F1 Team," said Fong, who drove for the team twice in 2014, including in FP1 in Abu Dhabi. "I will do my best to give valuable feedback.
"Last year it was great to have the chance to drive the Sauber C33-Ferrari during FP1 here at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Now I am curious about testing the current car."
Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn added: "We are pleased to have Adderly in the car again and to give him the opportunity to drive a current Formula One car. He immediately put in a solid performance in his last opportunities for us. We are confident Adderly will again put in every effort in this tyre test.”
The one-day Pirelli test will run for 12 hours on Tuesday December 1, and will focus on helping the official tyre supplier develop their 2016 slick compounds.
