F2: Vesti streaks clear in the Barcelona rain to take his third win of the season

Frederik Vesti didn’t let anything stop him en route to Sprint Race victory in Barcelona. A pre-race downpour made conditions tough for all the drivers, but the PREMA Racing and Mercedes Junior driver was on the charge from the opening lap.
Minor contact after a move around the outside of Jak Crawford put the Dane up into second in the opening stages. He forced an error from Amaury Cordeel chasing down the Belgian for the lead and retained the top spot for the remaining laps.

In the wet conditions, he built up a comfortable lead over Victor Martins after the Frenchman moved into P2. After the track dried out and a late Safety Car brought everyone in for dry tyres, Vesti managed the restart and his Championship rival Théo Pourchaire to retain the lead and victory.
Pourchaire put on two late overtakes on the same lap. At the Safety Car restart on Lap 24, he passed Dennis Hauger down the inside of Turn 1 before pulling off an audacious pass around the outside of teammate Martins through Turn 3 to move up to second.
Martins scored his first podium since Round 2 in Jeddah with third position, holding off Hauger in fourth for the final rostrum spot. Jack Doohan secured a top five result with P5 and the Australian will be hoping to kickstart his season in Sunday’s Feature Race, going from third on the grid.
Richard Verschoor climbed through the order to finish sixth having started in P12 for Van Amersfoort Racing. Oliver Bearman finished P7 for PREMA while Ayumu Iwasa rounded out the points positions in eighth for DAMS.
