F2: Miyata claims impressive maiden victory in Madrid Sprint Race

Ritomo Miyata achieved his first ever victory in Formula 2 with a strong performance in the inaugural Madrid Sprint Race.

Starting from second, the Hitech driver took the lead on the run to Turn 1 and managed two Safety Car restarts well before going on to win by over two and a half seconds.

Emerson Fittipaldi had started from pole, but after losing out he put in a mature drive to finish second – giving him his maiden F2 podium.

The AIX Racing driver was forced to hold on to his position for the final few laps under pressure from Laurens van Hoepen, who settled for P3 in his TRIDENT.

Campos Racing’s Noel Leon finished fourth ahead of Rodin Motorsport’s Martinius Stenshorne.

Invicta Racing’s Rafael Camara and Rodin’s Alexander Dunne had a race-long battle, with the Ferrari Driver Academy member holding on for P6, as home favourite Mari Boya took the final point in eighth.

Dino Beganovic is set to start from pole position in Sunday’s Feature Race ahead of Dunne.
