F1 FANTASY: Strategist Selection – What’s the best line-up for the Miami Grand Prix?

Formula 1 is back in the 305 for the Miami Grand Prix and the second Sprint weekend of the season. With an extra session of scoring in F1 Fantasy on the table, there’s plenty at stake.

F1 Fantasy points are also awarded in the 100-kilometre Sprint, so the right selection decisions continue to be as important as ever. The Strategist takes a look at seven F1 Fantasy assets that can be your north star this weekend in south Florida.

Remember to lock in your teams before the Sprint, commencing at May 3 at 1200 local time (1600 UTC).

Oscar Piastri ($23.7m)

Oscar Piastri arrives in Miami leading the World Drivers’ Championship with three Grand Prix victories to his name so far in 2025.

In Fantasy terms, the Australian is second for points per one million dollars spent this season (1.41), representing great value for his 35% ownership.

Piastri’s remarkable consistency of consecutive double-digit F1 Fantasy scores stretches all the way back to Las Vegas 2023 – exactly what you want from the most popular driver for the 2x DRS Boost this season.

However, the McLaren racer finished P13 in Miami last season. Can he make it three victories on the trot this year in Florida?

Alex Albon ($12.6m)

Alex Albon has scored 61 F1 Fantasy points this season, the most among all drivers not from the ‘Big Four’ of McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari – the four squads above Williams in the Teams’ Championship.

The Thai racer arrives in Miami on the back of four double-digit F1 Fantasy hauls in his first five races of this campaign.

Saudi Arabia was the second time this season (China being the other) where Williams secured a double-points finish in a 2025 Grand Prix, following a pre-season of promise.

Albon only requires 10 F1 Fantasy points for a price rise in Miami, which is very attainable with an extra point scoring session, in a car that now looks like it could help Williams establish themselves as the leading midfield outfit.

Liam Lawson ($6.6m)

Liam Lawson’s friendly price point makes him an attractive option in Miami.

The New Zealander is averaging 8 points in his last two appearances for Racing Bulls after a sluggish start to 2025.

He will be determined to rediscover the kind of form that turned in 54 F1 Fantasy points across four Sprint weekends for the Faenza-based team in 2024 and 2025.

With only 6% ownership, Lawson stands out as a great differential option this weekend.

Fernando Alonso ($6.4m)

Fernando Alonso’s two trips to Miami with Aston Martin have fetched top-10 finishes in each Grand Prix, including a podium in 2023.

With the car not quite performing like it was two seasons ago, the Spaniard has now sunk to the fourth-lowest priced driver in F1 Fantasy.

Many fantasy players would consider $6.4m a steal for a driver with his race craft and experience, and the Strategist agrees.

As Alonso only needs 11 points for the maximum $0.6m increase this weekend, this is very much within reach with the Sprint providing an extra point scoring opportunity.

Gabriel Bortoleto ($4.5m)

Gabriel Bortoleto once again features on the Strategist’s radar this week.

Although 12 points over the last four races is nothing to get excited about, the Kick Sauber driver becomes an attractive option because of his price.

McLaren and Ferrari, the two most expensive constructors in the game, are drawing the attention of many an F1 Fantasy player and the Brazilian’s friendly price makes him a compelling set-and-forget option that cannot go any lower than his current price.

Bortoleto can also be a great low-risk asset for those looking to preserve cost cap value whilst on Limitless – a popular chip to use in-game over the coming race weekends.

Other drivers to monitor: Lando Norris, Oliver Bearman

McLaren ($31.5m)

McLaren are on record-setting pace to start the year with four wins from the first five races in 2025.

In F1 Fantasy it’s no different – the team has been the highest scoring constructor every weekend this year.

In the most recent F1 Sprint in China, McLaren recorded 101 points – the highest score of any asset this season – and fell just short of the century mark again in Bahrain.

With the Sprint weekend being the best source of points for drivers and teams alike, expect the papaya squad to lead the charge once again.

Ferrari ($27.6m)

The Scuderia have outscored their front-running rivals Mercedes and Red Bull in the last three race weeks, coming away with 193 points in that span.

Ferrari also rule the pit stop roost, contributing 45 points to their team score on the back of efficient tyre changes each race since the China double disqualification.

After starting out the season as the highest owned constructor in F1 Fantasy, their current ownership (21%) is now approaching differential territory.

With Ferrari responsible for the highest score by a constructor this season not named McLaren (73 – Bahrain), expect the team from Maranello to exceed this mark on a Sprint weekend.

Other constructors to monitor: Red Bull, Haas

Chip Consideration: Limitless

Limitless is an optimal chip to deploy for Sprint events. With the deadline coming at the start of the Sprint on these weekends, it provides an additional session of point-scoring opportunities for your team.

Playing this chip earlier in the season can prove to be advantageous, when team budgets are lower than they typically would be later in the year. If you haven’t already played it in China, it might be advantageous to play it this weekend.

Alternatively, with rain in the forecast for the weekend, you might consider using No Negative or Autopilot if the weather takes a turn for the worse. These chips would protect against any unforeseen DNFs, which we saw unfold in spades during the Australian Grand Prix.
