Maya Weug proved that she was never going to give up on the F1 ACADEMY title easily as she fought back against Doriane Pin to take her third win of the season in Race 2 around the streets of Singapore.

After the Mercedes-backed driver executed a better launch at lights out, Weug was demoted to second place and remained there for the majority of the race, dropping over two seconds behind Pin at times.

However, a rain shower followed by Nicola Havrda crashing out of the proceedings shook up the order, with both race leaders electing to stay out on the damp track rather than pitting under the Safety Car.

At the restart on the final lap, Pin controlled the pack well, but the challenging conditions prevented her from charging away too quickly. This opened the door for Weug to reclaim first place, with her bold overtake on the last lap simultaneously handing her victory and narrowing the overall points deficit to Standings leader Pin.

The top three in the race mirrored that in the standings as McLaren’s Ella Lloyd leapfrogged Chloe Chambers for P3, taking her fifth podium finish of the year.

Kick Sauber driver Emma Felbermayr was a confident fourth ahead of Alba Larsen and Nina Gademan. Chloe Chong, Joanne Ciconte and Rafaela Ferreira were next, with Haas’ Courtney Crone securing her first points finish.
