F1 2020 team guide: Will Renault mount a fightback after disappointing in 2019?
Renault did not come back to F1 as a full constructor outfit in 2016 in order to scrap for points. The French team came back to win races and championships – but have so far managed neither, and disappointed last year as they fell to fifth in the championship, behind customer team McLaren.
So 2020 has to be better for Cyril Abiteboul and his squad – though the demands of delivering enough performance to satisfy both the company chiefs and drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon must be balanced with the need to use team's resources to get ahead of the game for the huge regulation change coming for next year.
Minimum target must be to reclaim the 'best of the rest' spot of fourth in the championship, but with McLaren and Racing Point looking quick, they will have a fight on their hands.
