Wet weather conditions can produce surprising results – and so it proved in FP3 at Budapest, as an impressive performance from Nicholas Latifi saw the Williams racer top the timesheets of a practice session for the first time in his F1 career.
Leaving it late on the intermediate tyres, Latifi set a time of 1m 41.480s, to lead the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, in second, by 0.661s. It was a good session for Williams, with Alex Albon rounding out the top three with a time that was 0.901s behind his team mate.
Max Verstappen was fourth fastest, ahead of George Russell in fifth – while his Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton was down in 11th. Fernando Alonso took sixth, ahead of his fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz, in the other Ferrari, in seventh – with Lando Norris in eighth.

It was a mixed session for Sebastian Vettel, as while he was the ninth fastest driver on track, he ended up in the barrier at Turn 10 after losing the rear end, which brought out the first red flags of the weekend.
