Lewis Hamilton remains without a pole position to his name at Istanbul Park – but that’s only because of a 10-place grid drop, with the Mercedes man having claimed P1 in qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix before his penalty, with a new track record to boot.
It’s Hamilton’s Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas who’ll start on pole position, then, with Max Verstappen lurking with intent after claiming what will become P2 on the grid – but with the Dutchman not overly enthusiastic about starting on the dirty side of the track.

Elsewhere, there were starring performances from the likes of Pierre Gasly – who out-qualified the Red Bull of Sergio Perez – while Mick Schumacher made Q2 for the second time in his career in far from straightforward conditions.
